Spatio-temporal analysis of remotely sensed and hydrological model soil moisture in the small Jičinka River catchment in Czech Republic

Abstract The knowledge of spatio-temporal dynamics soil moisture within the catchment is very important for rainfall–runoff modelling in flood forecasting. In this study comparison between remotely sensed and estimated from SHETRAN hydrological model was performed small flashy Jičinka River (75.9 km 2 ) Czech Republic. Due to a relatively coarse spatial resolution satellite data, data were downscaled, by applying method developed Qu et al. (2015). sub-grid variability on basis mean grid cell known hydraulic properties. calibrated verified observed streamflow hydrographs at outlet. good correlation two different information obtained according majority applied criteria. results evaluation criteria indicate that downscaled can be used as additional calibration validation models catchments contribute better estimation parameters, reduce uncertainties improve runoff simulations.
